5 Alternate Ride Options in New Jersey (including Free Ones) to Stay Sober this St. Patrick’s Day

On March 17th every year suddenly many, many people become Irish (at least for the day).  Why? We’d like to say because it gives us an excuse to wear ridiculous green and silly outfits, but probably another large part of it is the green beer.

Everyone likes to have a good time–there’s nothing wrong with that, after all. But sometimes it’s hard to know the line between a good time, and a dangerous one. Drinking during the holidays can easily get out-of-hand before you realize it. So, let’s go over some options of what you can do to stay safe this St. Patrick’s Day, and to keep everyone else on the road with you safe, as well.

1. Uber – “Get a taxi, private car or rideshare from your mobile phone. Uber connects you with a driver in minutes. Use our app in cities around the world.”  We should note that during busy times–ehhhhm, holidays–the price for an uber driver usually goes up. They do quote a fare within the app, however. You can also split the ride with your friends as long as they have an account as well, and you can “refer” friends with a coupon code to use for a “free ride” (usually with restrictions to what Uber considers free).

2. Taxi – Ok, this one is kind of obvious, we know. Still, we love the classics. For best results (especially on your wallet), call the taxi company you plan on using ahead of time to be quoted a fare price. This way you don’t get any unsightly surprises when they show up. You should try asking if the fare back will be the same amount, or you could ask the driver you get if you can contact him directly for a ride home later tonight. Make sure everyone has cash on them ahead of time, too.

3. Designated Driver – Another one that is obvious, but how many times do people remember to think of it? You should switch up with friends for holidays and other events so you always someone not drinking ready to drive. After all, large crowds of green Dr. Seuss hats, and clover-bead necklaces are already fun all on their own.

4. Sober Ride Program – This one is pretty cool. It’s programs to help you get home safe from a bar. You can check out New Jersey’s list in the link, but we will also list the areas it covers here:

5. Your Mom – We’ll admit it. We couldn’t find another nifty trick for #5, but to be honest? Family is always a person you can call if you’ve consumed some alcohol and shouldn’t drive. Remember, there’s that new (not very cool sounding) slogan #BuzzedDriving. It doesn’t have to be your mom, either (if the prospect of that is too scary). It could be your brother, your dad, you half-sister, that weird cousin who likes talking to his cats, your uncle who is not actually a blood relative . . . well, you get the point.
